On the evening of 16 June 2026, the Sarawak Working Committee of the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CECCM) hosted a special screening of A Letter to Grandma in Kuching. Mr. Yi Ming, Chairman of the CECCM Sarawak Working Committee and Branch Manager of Bank of China (Kuching Branch), invited representatives of member companies and members of the local community to enjoy the film together, using cinema as a platform to foster friendship, strengthen cultural ties, and celebrate shared heritage.
The event attracted approximately 250 guests. Among those in attendance were Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South City Council; Mr. Xing Weiping, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching; Mr. Song Changhong, Deputy Consul General; as well as representatives from the Chinese community and the business sector. Together with the audience, they experienced the film’s touching portrayal of family affection and cultural heritage.

Centred around the theme of Qiaopi—letters and remittances sent by overseas Chinese to their families—the film tells the heartfelt story of the enduring emotional bond between overseas Chinese and their loved ones back home. Its moving narrative resonated deeply with the audience. Many participants shared that the film reminded them of family members far away and inspired them to cherish the preciousness of family ties and companionship. The film’s portrayal of family values, traditional virtues, and the enduring spirit of Chinese culture left a lasting impression on those present.
Following the screening, Dato Wee Hong Seng delivered remarks and commended the event. He noted that film is not only an important medium for cultural communication, but also a bridge that connects people and promotes mutual understanding. Through the unique cultural legacy of Qiaopi, A Letter to Grandma vividly conveys the values of family, gratitude, and remembrance of one’s roots, highlighting the traditional virtues of Chinese culture while contributing positively to cultural exchange and greater understanding among different communities.
The film appreciation event not only provided member companies and members of the local community with a warm and memorable cultural experience, but also further strengthened the ties between the CECCM Sarawak Working Committee and various sectors of the local community. The enthusiastic response from participants created a meaningful platform for appreciating Chinese culture and promoting interaction and friendship.
