On 3 September 2026, the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) hosted a reception in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The reception was attended by Mr Sam Hou Fai, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR; Mr Ouyang Yujing, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia; YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia; YB Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia; and Ms Ng Wai Han, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR. Nearly 350 guests attended the reception, including members of the Macao SAR Government delegation, business representatives, representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, and members of various sectors in Malaysia.
In his remarks, Mr Sam Hou Fai noted that during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia last year, China and Malaysia agreed to build a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, ushering in a new “golden 50 years” of bilateral relations. He said Macao and Malaysia are both important nodes along the Maritime Silk Road and have a strong foundation for cooperation, with fruitful outcomes achieved over the years.
Against the backdrop of Macao’s Third Five-Year Plan and Malaysia’s 13th Malaysia Plan, Mr Sam expressed Macao’s willingness to strengthen coordination with Malaysia in development planning, deepen practical cooperation across various fields, and promote two-way exchanges between enterprises and young talent.
Eight cooperation agreements were signed during the reception, covering trade and investment, tourism promotion, cultural tourism, higher education, industry-academia-research cooperation, halal certification, and the training of traditional Chinese medicine professionals.
The China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CECCM) was represented by President Ni Qingjiu; Vice President and Secretary-General Zhou Jiayi; Vice Presidents Wu Jun, Geng Hao, Peng Anping and Li Zhiqiang; and Committee Members Li Zehui and Guo Song.
