On 12 May 2026, The Chairman of the Sarawak Working Committee , together with representatives of Chinese enterprises, paid a courtesy visit to Dato’ Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South City, to exchange views on strengthening Malaysia–China cooperation and supporting local economic development.
The delegation was led by Mr. Yi Ming, the Chairman of the Sarawak Working Committee and Branch Manager of Bank of China Kuching Branch. Representatives from Sinohydro Corporation (M) Sdn. Bhd., China Communications Construction Company (M) Sdn Bhd., and Shanghai Electric Power T&D (M) Sdn Bhd. also participated in the visit.During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on Kuching’s future development, business opportunities for Chinese enterprises in Sarawak, and ways to further strengthen cooperation. Discussions focused on promoting mutually beneficial partnerships and supporting the sustainable economic growth of the region.
Mayor Wee welcomed the continued investment of Chinese enterprises in Kuching and commended their longstanding contributions to local economic development. He expressed his hope that Malaysia and China would further deepen cooperation and jointly promote regional economic prosperity.
Mr. Yi Ming stated that the Sarawak Working Committee would continue to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and China and contribute to regional economic development through closer collaboration.
The visit further enhanced communication and mutual understanding between Chinese enterprises and the Kuching South City Council, laying a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in the future.
