On December 5, 2024, the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CECCM) held the ‘The Role of Chinese Enterprises in Malaysia’s Economic Development Analysis Report Press Conference’ and the Digital Economy and Green Development Forum 2024” at Xiamen University Malaysia.
The event featured speeches by distinguished guests including H.E. Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia; YB Mr Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Human Resources; and Mr. Ni Qingjiu, President of CECCM. Other notable attendees were Mr. Sun Shuqiang, Minister Counsellor, Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia; Ms. Lim Ming Yee, Director of the Foreign Investment Division at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA); Mr. Samuel Lee Thai Hung, Deputy Director General (Promotion II), Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board; Dato’ Majid, President of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association; Dato’ Ng Yih Pyng, President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM); Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai, President of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers; Mr. Loo Kok Seong, President of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce; Prof. Dr Wang Ruifang, President of Xiamen University Malaysia; and Mr. Neo Chee Hua, CEO of the Southeast Asia Research Centre for Humanities. Approximately 300 representatives from government, business, and academic sectors of both countries attended the event.
Before the opening ceremony, distinguished guests toured an exhibition featuring innovative products and collaborative projects by China enterprises in Malaysia, showcasing the dynamic cooperation between the two nations.
The forum began with a special documentary produced by CECCM titled “50 Glorious Years of China-Malaysia Economic Cooperation”, which reviewed the development and achievements of bilateral trade and economic collaboration over the past five decades.
H.E. Ouyang Yujing, gave a positive evaluation of the report “The Role of Chinese Enterprises in Malaysia’s Economic Development”, emphasizing that under the guidance and encouragement of both governments, Chinese investment in Malaysia has experienced significant growth, and bilateral trade volumes have consistently reached new historical highs during the 50 years since diplomatic relations were established.
YB Steven Sim Chee Keong highlighted that the deepening of China-Malaysia relations is inseparable from the joint efforts of both governments and the business community. He stressed that entrepreneurs and chambers of commerce have played an important bridging role in promoting cooperation. He expressed hope that after the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, both sides will continue to strengthen collaboration, explore new areas, and elevate bilateral relations to new heights.

Mr. Ni Qingjiu stated that CECCM will continue to promote China-Malaysia exchanges and cooperation. He pointed out that in the context of global changes, digital economy and green development have become inevitable trends, and there is huge potential for China-Malaysia cooperation in these fields. The analysis report on “The Role of Chinese Enterprises in Malaysia’s Economic Development” will provide important references for various sectors in both countries.

Mr. Neo Chee Hua, CEO of the Southeast Asia Research Centre for Humanities. and Dr. Ong Sheue Li, Senior Researcher at the center and Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Malaya, provided an in-depth introduction to the analysis report.
Ms. Lim Ming Yee, Director of the Foreign Investment Division at MIDA, presented on investment opportunities in Malaysia, encouraging further participation from Chinese enterprises in sectors aligned with national development priorities.
Representatives from eight Chinese and Malaysian companies shared successful case studies, offering valuable experiences and insights for Chinese enterprises developing in Malaysia.
The event concluded with a call for deeper cooperation in the digital economy and green development, setting the stage for a brighter and more sustainable future in China-Malaysia relations.
